Your
body produces different digestive enzymes like protease, lactase,
lipase, cellulase and amylase. Protease aids in the digestion
of protein, lactase aids in the digestion of dairy, lipase aids
in the digestion of fats, cellulase aids in the digestion of fiber,
and amylase aids in the digestion of starches and carbohydrates.
The
concept of food combining ensures that the body does not have
to produce a conflicting enzyme. For instance, you eat a potato
and the body begins to produce amylase, then you eat some cheese
and then your body produces lactase. This means that your body
may not have produced enough of the first enzyme to digest all
of the potato.
The food that does not get properly digested then
can ferment. The idea is to eat the same kinds of foods together
so that the body can efficiently produce the needed enzymes and
complete the digestion process. |
